I trained at a time when nursing was learned largely at the bedside. That grounding never left me: watch carefully, ask properly, document honestly, escalate early.
Aesthetic practice, done well, asks for exactly the same discipline. The needle is the smallest part of it. The assessment, the consent conversation and the follow-up are where the safety lives.
The journey
Thirty-nine years, in sequence.
1986
Nurse training begins
A place on nurse training at eighteen — the start of a career that would span almost four decades of continuous NHS service.
1990s
Building clinical depth
Years spent in acute and community settings, learning assessment, escalation and the discipline of doing things properly when nobody is watching.
2000s
A quiet interest takes hold
A first encounter with aesthetic medicine and the realisation that it could be practised with the same rigour as any other clinical discipline. Life, family and NHS commitments meant the idea had to wait.
2019
MSc Advanced Practice
Qualification as an Advanced Nurse Practitioner — advanced assessment, diagnostics, prescribing and clinical decision-making at the highest level of nursing practice.
2023
A conversation that changed things
A chance meeting with another nurse practising in aesthetics, and the confidence that this was not a departure from nursing but an extension of it.
Today
The clinic opens
A small, deliberately unhurried practice in Scotland — one practitioner, full consultations, and no treatment given that could not be justified clinically.
Philosophy
What guides every decision.
Enhancement, never transformation
My aim is never to change how you look, only to relieve what makes you look tired. If a request would alter your identity rather than refresh it, I will say so honestly and offer an alternative.
Safety is not a feature
It is the foundation. Medical history, medication review, contraindications, emergency protocols, aftercare and follow-up are not optional extras — they are the treatment.
The consultation matters most
The most valuable thing I offer is not a syringe. It is forty years of clinical judgement, applied properly to your face, in an unhurried appointment where you are genuinely listened to.
Honesty over income
I would rather lose a booking than treat someone who should not be treated. Declining is part of my professional duty, not a failure of service.
Patient safety
Why patient safety sits above everything else.
Aesthetic treatments are medical procedures. They carry genuine risk — vascular occlusion, infection, asymmetry, disappointment. Those risks are small in trained hands and considerable in untrained ones.
You will hear about every relevant risk before you consent, in plain language. You will be given written aftercare and a direct number. If something concerns you afterwards, you speak to me — not an inbox.
That is what almost forty years of nursing gives you: not just skill with a needle, but the judgement to recognise a problem early and the confidence to manage it.
